Laser tattoo removal at Original You in Las Vegas

Laser Tattoo Removal in Las Vegas

Enlighten III pico and nano wavelengths, DeScribe PFD patch passes, local anesthetic when you want it, and a written plan before the first pulse. Performed only by licensed healthcare professionals.

How laser tattoo removal works at Original You

Laser tattoo removal uses ultra-short laser pulses to shatter tattoo ink into particles small enough for your immune system to clear. At Original You in Las Vegas, treatments are performed on the Cutera Enlighten III — a third-generation picosecond laser with 1064nm, 670nm and 532nm wavelengths and dual pulse durations — often combined with DeScribe PFD patches so several passes can be done in one visit. Most tattoos need 6–12 sessions spaced 6–8 weeks apart; our clinic average is about 7, and if you pass 10 we keep treating that area free for a year.

Every kind of tattoo, planned differently

01

Professional tattoos

Dense, deliberately deposited ink. These usually need the most sessions, and lighter colors take longer than dark ones.

02

Amateur & stick-and-poke

Shallower placement and less ink, so they typically clear in fewer sessions than professional work.

03

Cosmetic & permanent makeup

Brows, lip liner and microblading. Less pigment overall, but organic pigments can shift color — we test first.

04

Medical & radiation markers

Small, light markers placed for radiation therapy. With a written referral from your oncologist, Original You removes radiation therapy markers at no charge.

05

Traumatic tattoos

Debris and particles embedded by injury. Laser treatment can often help — we evaluate in person.

06

Tattoos on scars

Treatable with conservative settings and longer intervals. The laser clears ink, not scar texture, and we say so up front. Read more on scars.

Cover-up fading

Fading for a cover-up, not a full removal

If you are working with a tattoo artist on new work, you do not need full clearance — you need the old ink light enough that the new design reads cleanly. That is a different, shorter plan: typically 1–4 sessions instead of a full course.

Bring your artist’s design or their notes to the consultation. We will map the fade to what they need, treat only the areas that matter, and coordinate timing so your skin is fully healed before they tattoo over it.

Cosmetic tattoo

Microblading, permanent makeup & brow tattoo removal

Brows that turned orange or grey, lip liner that migrated, microblading that no longer matches your face — all treatable. Because these pigments sit close to the eyes and lips and are chemically unpredictable (iron oxide and titanium dioxide can darken on contact with laser energy), we always start with a test spot and treat conservatively.

Expect fewer sessions than a professional body tattoo, but a slower, more cautious cadence.

Why the Enlighten III clears ink faster

No single laser removes every tattoo well — different ink colors absorb different wavelengths. Original You was the first practice in Nevada to run the Cutera Enlighten III, a third-generation picosecond platform.

3 wavelengths

1064nm, 670nm and 532nm target black, blue, red, green and yellow ink on one platform.

Dual pulse durations

750 picoseconds and 2 nanoseconds — precision with less collateral heat and lower side-effect risk.

2–8mm spot sizes

Large tattoos treat in roughly the same time as small ones.

Speed

Up to half the treatment time of a Q-switched laser, which means fewer visits over the course of a plan.

The DeScribe PFD patch protocol

The DeScribe patch is an FDA-cleared, dual-layer silicone patch infused with perfluorodecalin. Laid over the tattoo during treatment, it reduces light scattering, pulls heat away from the skin and lets us run several laser passes in one sitting with no waiting between passes — unlike the older R20 method that required 20-minute gaps.

The result is fewer total sessions and a more comfortable visit, with almost no added appointment time. Read the full PFD patch article →

How many sessions will my tattoo take?

Most tattoos clear in 6–12 sessions spaced 6–8 weeks apart. Our clinic average is about 7 and most patients are satisfied at 5–7. Cover-up fades are usually 1–4. Three groups of factors drive the number:

  • The tattoo: ink color, pigment density, size, depth and age. Older tattoos and black ink generally respond faster than fresh, multi-colored work.
  • You: Fitzpatrick skin type, immune response, general health and habits — smoking measurably slows clearance.
  • The approach: wavelength, pulse duration, number of passes and whether we use PFD patches.

Placement matters too: hands, fingers, feet and ankles clear more slowly than the chest, back or outer arms because of circulation. See a realistic timeline →

Our guarantee

The 10-treatment guarantee

We stand behind our technology and our clinicians. If your tattoo needs more than 10 treatments, we keep treating that area at no charge for a full year after your 10th session. Our average is about 7 sessions, and most patients are satisfied in 5–7.

Comfort during treatment

Most people describe it as a rubber band snapped quickly against the skin. Sessions are short — often only minutes. We use cold compress before, during and after (in our experience ice outperforms cold-air machines and topicals), and because a medical provider is always on site we can offer local anesthetic injections: a few needle pokes and then you feel nothing during the laser pass. Ribs, ankles and hands are the most sensitive spots.

What happens afterward

The tattoo frosts white immediately and returns to its normal color within about 24 hours, then starts to fade. Expect the equivalent of a sunburn, with possible swelling or blistering for a few days. Most people return to normal activity the same day. Keep the area clean and covered, avoid sun and soaking, do not pick scabs, and use SPF 30+ on the site until it fully heals. Full aftercare instructions →

Laser tattoo removal FAQ

How does laser tattoo removal actually work?

Tattoo ink sits in the dermis in particles too large for your immune system to carry away. A picosecond laser fires pulses lasting trillionths of a second, which shatter those particles photo-mechanically rather than by cooking the tissue. The fragments are then cleared through the lymphatic system over the following weeks — which is why sessions are spaced 6–8 weeks apart rather than back to back.

What makes the Enlighten III different from a Q-switched laser?

Three things: multiple wavelengths (1064nm, 670nm, 532nm) so one platform can address black, blue, red, green and yellow ink; dual pulse durations (750 picoseconds and 2 nanoseconds) for precision with less collateral heat; and spot sizes from 2mm to 8mm so large tattoos take roughly the same time as small ones. Original You was the first practice in Nevada to offer the Enlighten III.

What is the DeScribe PFD patch and why does it matter?

The DeScribe PFD patch is an FDA-cleared, dual-layer silicone patch infused with perfluorodecalin. Placed over the tattoo during treatment, it reduces laser light scattering, draws heat away from the skin and lets us perform several laser passes in a single visit with no waiting between passes. The practical result is fewer total sessions and better comfort, without adding meaningful time to the appointment.

Which ink colors are hardest to remove?

Black, dark blue and red respond well. Green, light blue, yellow and white are historically the most stubborn, though pico technology has expanded what is achievable with them. White ink and some cosmetic pigments can darken or shift color when treated, so we perform a test spot whenever there is any uncertainty before treating the full tattoo.

What should I expect during and after each session?

The tattoo frosts white immediately after the pass and returns to its normal color within about 24 hours, then begins to fade. Expect the equivalent of a sunburn, with possible swelling, pinpoint bleeding or blistering. Most people go back to normal activity the same day. Keep the area clean and covered per our written aftercare, avoid sun and soaking, and let scabs fall off on their own.

Can you fade a tattoo for a cover-up instead of removing it?

Yes, and it is one of our most common requests. Cover-up fading only needs to lighten the existing ink enough for your artist to place new work cleanly, so it typically takes 1–4 sessions instead of a full removal course. Bring your artist’s design or their notes to the consultation and we will plan the fade around what they need.

Do you remove microblading, permanent makeup and eyebrow tattoos?

Yes. Brows, lip liner and other permanent makeup that has shifted color or shape can be treated, with extra care given the proximity to the eyes and lips. Cosmetic pigments are chemically unpredictable — some contain iron oxide or titanium dioxide that can darken — so a test spot comes first, always.

Can you remove a tattoo over a scar or keloid?

Often, yes, but the plan changes. Scarred skin has different pigment behavior and blood supply, so we use conservative settings, longer intervals and clear expectations: the laser targets ink, not scar texture, so the underlying scar will still be visible after the ink clears. We evaluate the scar in person before quoting a session count.

Is laser tattoo removal safe?

With a properly trained, licensed practitioner using equipment appropriate for your skin type, laser tattoo removal has a well-established safety profile. Risks include temporary redness, swelling and blistering, and rarely lasting pigment change or scarring. We review medical history, assess your skin, discuss risks individually and document each area photographically at every visit.

How soon can I start, and how long between sessions?

Many patients start the same day as their consultation. Sessions are then spaced at least 6 weeks apart — 6–8 weeks is typical — so the skin fully heals and your immune system has time to clear fragmented ink. Waiting longer than 8 weeks is fine and never sets you back.
